Body-protected areas in day procedure, endoscopy and imaging

Day procedure rooms, endoscopy rooms, recovery bays with patient monitoring, and imaging rooms are patient areas. Some specialised rooms, like cardiac catheter labs, need the higher cardiac-protected classification instead.

Usually patient areas

  • Procedure and endoscopy rooms
  • Recovery bays with patient monitoring
  • Ultrasound, X-ray, OPG and CBCT rooms

Usually not

  • –Admin, waiting and staff areas

Each room’s classification is the practice’s decision, based on how it will be used, with input from clinicians, equipment suppliers and the electrician.

Plan before the walls close

  • Classify every room and bay with your clinicians before design is finished
  • Dedicated, protected supplies for imaging equipment to spec
  • Nurse call and staff assist planned with the electrical
