Body-protected area fit-out checklist

What to decide before the walls close. Print it for your builder and electrician.

• Room use. Every room listed with how it will be used, and its classification agreed with clinicians and the electrician.
• Equipment. The equipment list with supplier spec sheets: chairs, imaging, sterilisers, lasers, monitoring.
• Switchboard. Space and capacity for the 10 mA RCDs and the new circuits, with room to grow.
• Dedicated circuits. Separate circuits for chairs, imaging and sterilisers to each supplier’s spec.
• Outlets and signage. Protected outlets identified, the green sign at each door, cleaners’ outlets outside the clinical circuits.
• Sign-off booked. Your state’s certificate, and any inspection or audit, booked into the builder’s programme.
• Handover pack. Certificates, AS/NZS 3003 test results and the next test date, kept with your compliance files.
• First retest. Booked within 12 months of handover.
