What happens if the 12-month test on a body-protected area is overdue?

The room doesn’t stop working, which is the problem: nothing visibly changes, but you no longer have evidence that the RCDs trip, the earthing is intact and the outlets are safe for equipment connected to patients. AS/NZS 3003 requires the test at intervals not exceeding 12 months, and your accreditation, insurer and any regulator audit will ask for the records.

Alterations in the room should not go ahead until it has been tested, so an overdue test also holds up any new equipment or changes.

The fix is straightforward: book the test, get the results and a new date on the sign’s label, and set a reminder for next year. The reminder tool on this site can email you a month before it is due.
