Common questions
How many power points can a dental surgery have?
There is no cap on the number of outlets in a dental surgery or treatment room. The limit is on the safety switch: one 10 mA RCD can protect no more than 12 outlets. So a room with more outlets isn’t a problem, it simply needs more RCDs, and they sit in the room with the rest.
The dental chair and any imaging equipment don’t count towards that, because each has its own dedicated protected circuit. The cleaners’ outlet is separate again, on its own circuit from the switchboard with its own 10 mA RCD.
The useful thing is to decide where the outlets go before the walls close: the bench, the imaging wall, the chair, charging points for handpieces and screens. Adding them afterwards means opening walls and retesting the room.
