Common questions
Were any 10 mA medical RCDs recalled?
Yes. On 29 October 2020 Schneider Electric recalled a range of Clipsal 10 mA RCD socket-outlets and service panels, and Energy Safe Victoria published the alert on 24 November 2020. The affected part numbers begin 2025RC10, 2031RC10, 2031VRC10, C2025RC10, ML2025RC10, ML2025RC10C-BG and ML2031RC10, and the recall covers units bought between 1 July 2017 and 15 October 2020 inclusive. The regulator rated the risk to the public as low; the products did not meet the Australian standard.
If your rooms were fitted out or rewired in those years, ask the electrician or inspector at the next 12-month test to check the part numbers on the RCD plates against the recall. Replacing a single RCD or outlet with an equivalent in the same place is, in Victoria, non-prescribed work certified on a non-prescribed certificate after testing, so it does not trigger a full inspection.
Energy Safe Victoria used the same alert to remind electricians that patient-area work is tested to AS/NZS 3000 before energising and to AS/NZS 3003 after, and that some RCD testers with “0°” and “180°” switches cannot perform the AS/NZS 3003 tests.
